sacramento area racial equity practitioner network

The Sacramento Area Racial Equity Practitioner Network was launched in 2024 by government workers in the Sacramento region who wanted support for their racial equity work and a space to build relationships and collaboratively strategize about issues and barriers to moving their racial equity work forward.
“We kept running into each other at conferences in other cities and states…I thought, why not get together in the city we are all doing work in!”
– Sacramento Area Racial Equity Practitioner Network participant
With the backing of staff at the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE), the coordinating team has launched a Network that builds on an existing web of government jurisdictions with GARE memberships and also welcomes non-member jurisdictions.
How is it organized?
- The coordinating team is made up of government workers from the City of Sacramento and Sacramento-based state government, as well as staff from State of Equity, a non-governmental partner.
- The Network meets quarterly in a hybrid (virtual and in-person) meeting format. We prioritize providing options that support accessibility for Network participants.
- Meetings rotate hosts, who are invited to share a particular skill, resource, or tool. Prior hosts have included The City of Sacramento Library, State of California Water Resources Control Board, California Arts Council, and Sacramento Area Council of Governments.
- The Network has also birthed a pilot Human Resources Community of Practice that meets monthly.
Participants in the Network are finding incredible value in being connected with other practitioners, hearing the stories of progress and problem solving, sharing in peer learning and networking, and implementing new skills and strategies.
